What to put on a digital wedding invitation: the complete checklist

7 min read · Updated 2026-10-27

A digital invitation can hold far more than a printed card, and that is exactly why it is easy to forget something. Here is the checklist to go through before you share the link, from the essentials to the details guests always ask about.

The essentials

  • Both names, the way you want them written. Many families also add the parents' names in a line above: "Together with their families".
  • The day and the date, with the day of the week: "Saturday, 14 February 2027". The weekday saves a lot of calendar checking.
  • The time of the main ceremony. If there is a muhurat, give it, and say when guests should arrive.
  • The venue's name and full address, plus a map button. Most calls on a wedding day are about directions.
  • A way to reply: a WhatsApp button with a ready message is the easiest for guests.

Every function, separately

If the celebrations run over several days, list each function on its own with its day, time and venue: haldi, mehendi, sangeet, the wedding, the reception. Guests who come only for the reception need to find it at a glance. The functions guide explains what each one is, if some of your guests are new to them.

The details guests ask about

  • Dress code or colours for each function, if you have them: "Sangeet: something sparkly". A colour palette helps more than words.
  • Parking, and how to reach the venue from the station or the airport.
  • Accommodation for guests who travel, with a contact for it.
  • A contact person for the day who is not the couple: a cousin or a friend, with their number.
  • Whether children are welcome, and anything about gifts ("Your blessings are our gift"), said gently.

The warm part

A few lines of invitation in your own words, a blessing or a verse, and if you like, how the two of you met. Guests read these more than you expect, and they are what make a link feel like an invitation and not a timetable.

Sample wording: "With the blessings of our elders, we joyfully invite you to celebrate the wedding of our children, Priya and Aman. Your presence will make our day complete."

Before you share

  1. Open the card on your own phone and on an elder's phone, with the text size they use.
  2. Tap the map button and the reply button to check they go to the right place and number.
  3. Check every date and time once more against the venue booking.
  4. Then share it: the WhatsApp guide covers how and when.

Questions

Should the invitation show the time in IST for guests abroad?

On a digital card, a countdown can show each guest the moment in their own time zone automatically. In the text, write the local time of the venue.

How long should the invitation text be?

The first screen should hold the names, the date and the place. Everything else can sit lower down or on a second page, like the schedule or the story.

Is it fine to mention gifts?

Yes, if it is gentle and clear, for example: "Your blessings are our gift". Leave it out if you are unsure.
